Fredstock will return to San Antonio College Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the corner of Main Ave. and W. Courtland Place.

The official Fiesta event features music from local San Antonio bands, including Chicana punk band Fea, Tarasco Tropical, Retro Cowgirl, Snack Supper (Austin), Lemon Disco, and The Daisy Killers.

“Fredstock brings together all the Music Business, Radio, and Film classes to plan and run the event,” Dr. Ruben Rodriguez, Program Coordinator of the SAC Music Business program said. “[Fredstock] is an application of what we teach.”

The festival is named after the late Professor Fred Weiss, who founded the Music Business program and dedicated over 20 years to the San Antonio College Radio, TV, and Film program. Since 2010, Fredstock has given SAC Music Business students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience planning and implementing a music festival.

“I’m extremely grateful for the experience I gained after working Fredstock.” Emma Zendejas, the Courtland Music Business Association president, told SAC Student News. “It’s helped me in multiple ventures, such as my stage management at SXSW and my internship at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.”

Courtland Music Business Association is a student-led organization that aims to connect students and alumni to the local music business community and industry professionals. The organization is a key stakeholder in organizing Fredstock.

“We get the opportunity to work in many roles throughout Fredstock,” Angie Mendez, SAC Music Business student, said. “I was able to get hands-on experience in managing a band, marketing, sound engineering, and event planning.”

Fredstock will be broadcast on KSYM, 90.1 FM. Local vendors and food trucks, including Sassy But Sweet, Chispa Print, YoYo Ramen, and B-Daddy’s BBQ, will be present. There will be raffle prizes from sponsors like H-E-B, Music Go Round, Chipotle, and more. Fredstock ‘24 is a free, rain or shine event.
