San Antonio College’s men’s basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a loss, falling to the Northeast Lakeview Nighthawks 80-71 Wednesday night at SAC’s Candler Physical Education Center.

The Nighthawks came out strong in the first half, outplaying SAC on both sides of the court. As the Armadillos struggled to get their footing, the Nighthawks opened up a 15-point lead and ended the half up 38-23.

SAC Head Coach Jimmy Alcala made some adjustments at halftime to better handle Northeast Lakeview’s size advantage and swarming defense.

“On offense, we moved the ball a little quicker” to break down their defense, Alcala said. “On defense, we started putting more pressure on the inside because they had some big guys.”

The second half was more punishing for the Armadillos, and the game became more heated with bodies flying as the Nighthawks used their size advantage.

“They had some size on us,” Alcala said. “They kinda jumped on us a little bit.”

The Armadillos battled hard, pulling within six points late in the game, but the Nighthawks held on and closed the game with an 80-71 victory on the road.

The Armadillos will look to improve to 1-1 Wednesday when they play Austin Community College on the road.
