San Antonio College Men’s basketball team improved to 6-2 this semester after overwhelming the St. Philip’s College Tigers 100-72 on the road Feb. 28.
Small Forward Caleb Richardson started his 23-point rampage putting up 13 points before halftime, followed by an additional 10 points in the second half.
“From my first shot I felt like it was going to be a good game,” Richardson said. “We definitely should have won the game.”
Despite Shooting Guard Arian Elizondo’s suspension, the Armadillos maintained their offensive momentum throughout the match.
Point Guard Demetrice Mims had a strong performance, scoring 13 points in the first half and finishing with 19.
“We are continuing to make sure that our man-defense is up to par,” Richardson told SAC Student News. “Our man-defense could be better. To stop that from becoming a problem, we have to stop allowing opponents the opportunity to pass us.”
Center Markus Salinas was a defensive powerhouse, and his blocks in the paint gave the Armadillos a defensive edge.
Salinas’ final shot with 40 seconds remaining pushed the Armadillos into triple digits and sealed their 100-point victory.
SAC is leads their division with a record of 10-1 and are slotted for the playoffs after spring break.
“Being conditioned and ready for the moment is vital to our success in the playoffs,” Richardson said.
