San Antonio College students gathered outside of the Loftin Student Center to watch members of the Boxing Club compete in a sparring exhibition during SAC’s Funfest celebration April 24.
Organized by SAC’s Office of Student Life, Funfest featured food and music, a dunking booth, rides, fiesta medals, and the opportunity for 20 of the approximately 40 Boxing Club members to fight in 10 matches.
Headed by Coach Hector Ramos, the club teaches members to box with proper technique while building self-discipline and improving both physical and mental health.
“This event is really important to those students who come home after class with stress and frustrations,” Ramos said. “It allows them to show off their skills while having fun.”
Members of the Boxing Club also have the opportunity to practice off-campus at the Ramos Boxing Gym in South San Antonio. The gym has produced multiple Golden-Glove winning fighters.
