San Antonio College’s women’s basketball team improved to 1-1 with a strong 65-48 victory over Palo Alto College Oct. 9 at the Abraham Kazen Middle School Gym.
After dropping their season opener at home against Northeast Lakeview College 71-53, the Lady Armadillos were determined not to fall to 0-2.

They stayed neck and neck with the Palominos through most of the first half but started to pull ahead as their offense started clicking.
SAC’s Devyn Castillo drained three triples by the end of the second quarter, and the Armadillos opened up a considerable lead by the end of the third.

Alexis Castillo led scoring for the Armadillos, and SAC kept the pressure on the Palominos with efficient offense in the fourth quarter.
“It’s my first season playing for SAC,” Alexis Castillo said. “I like my team and can’t wait to get better together.”

Many spectators sported pink attire to observe Breast Cancer Awareness month, and breast cancer survivors and those whose family members have been afflicted by breast cancer were asked to raise their hands and received a standing ovation during halftime.
SAC Coach Abel Castillo said his team will look to build on the victory and tighten up team play going forward.

“We’ve got a big game next week, and we have to be able to maintain focus while under pressure in order to recover from mistakes,” Coach Castillo said.
The Lady Armadillos will look to improve to 2-1 Wednesday night as they take on the Northwest Vista Wildcats on the road.
