San Antonio College’s women’s basketball team improved to 2-0 Wednesday night, taking down the Austin Community College Riverbats 50-45 at the Austin Recreation Center.
Center Daviannah Johnson scored the first points of the game, and SAC Point Guard Alexis Castillo followed up with another two points. The teams traded points from there, closing the first quarter with SAC leading 9-6.

The Riverbats bounced back in the second quarter, bringing the score even at 18-18 to end the half. Johnson contributed strong defense and leadership for SAC.
“I try to just keep everybody together,” Johnson told the Sundial. “It’s the little things; we just gotta get ahead and pick it up.”

In the second half, SAC started to pull away as SAC Point Guard Alexis Castillo led the offense and the Armadillos clamped down on defense. By the end of the third quarter, SAC was up 36-22.
As SAC Guard Avah Castillo opened the fourth quarter with a quick score, the Armadillos looked poised to extend their lead and close out strong.
After SAC Guard Isleen Juarez suffered an injury and had to be helped off the court, the Armadillos struggled on defense, allowing 20 points in the quarter.

Johnson led SAC’s offense in the third, adding eight points. SAC Forward Casie Guy scored the final points to secure the win at 50-45.
“We did great,” Guy said after the game. “Our chemistry is getting better. We only have maybe three or four returning players, so the fact that we’re all coming together means we’re going to be great later on this season.”

SAC will look to stay undefeated Wednesday as they take on the Palo Alto College Palominos on the road. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
“It’s gonna be a close game,” Guy said. “Palo Alto is a great team, but we’re a better team. It’s going to be a great game.”
