San Antonio College’s student newspaper, The Ranger, was published from 1926 until 2021 when several unfortunate events led to the paper shutting down production. But after a two year hiatus, SAC Student News is back as a digital-first, multimedia news outlet, and the publication needs a proper name.
That’s why we’re calling on you — our audience. Can you help us find the perfect name for our college news outlet? The contest is open to all SAC students, faculty, staff, and former students. The winner will be recognized at a college event and win some swag.
The Associated Collegiate Press recognized The Ranger as one of the nation’s top 100 student publications, and many SAC alumni have cited their work at The Ranger as their entry into professional media. Help us launch this well-respected publication into the future with a new name that all of us can be proud of.
The Rules
1 – You may enter as many names as you like, but only submit one name per entry. Just fill out the entry form below and hit “Submit.”
2 – The name does not have to relate to the college mascot (Armadillo). It can, but it does not have to.
3 – You must include your name and contact information on each entry to be recognized if you win.
4– Entries must be received by midnight Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, to receive full consideration.
5 – The ultimate objective is to find the best name, so we reserve the right to choose the best name regardless of how it is received; only names submitted through the official entry form will be considered to win the contest.
A committee of SAC journalism students, faculty advisors and professional journalists will select the winner.
