San Antonio College’s men’s basketball team fell to 1-4 Wednesday, losing to the St. Philip’s Tigers 82-79 at SAC’s Candler Physical Education Center.
The Armadillos have struggled to keep their footing in games this season, often starting strong with great footwork and passing action before letting victory slip away.
Despite getting pushed, elbowed and knocked over, SAC Guard Kamirin Williams managed to get back up and used the Tigers’ aggression as motivation.
“I like hustling,” Williams told the Sundial. “I play hard, so that’s just what comes with it.”
SAC Point Guard Demetrice Mims suffered a head injury after he was thrown to the ground in the first half. Coach Jimmy Alcala took Mims out to rest before subbing him back in.
SAC slowed down in the second half, falling behind. With both teams racking up fouls and the Armadillos gaining free throws, SAC had a hard time keeping the team as one unit.
Each player tried their best to show Alcala what they were made of, but each player failed to succeed with those attempts.
Mims said his team needs to start games stronger and play more consistent.
“How we end games is how we should be playing the full game,” Mims said.
The Armadillos have two games remaining in the regular fall season. The men return to action against the Trinity University Tigers Wednesday at 8 p.m. at SAC’s Candler Physical Education Center.
