San Antonio Collegeās menās basketball team fell to 1-1 after losing on the road to the Palo Alto College Palominos 75-67 at the Abraham Kazen Middle School Gym Wednesday night.
The Armadillos fought hard in the first half in a heated battle that ended with the Palominos up 37-34 at halftime. Palo Alto Collegeās home gym is being renovated, so the middle school is serving as the collegeās home court in the interim.
The Armadillos fell further behind in the second half as the team suffered from poor shooting and inconsistent defense.
āWe have a lot to work on,ā SAC Coach Jimmy Acala said. āWe had some issues keeping the ball and making free-throws.ā
SAC Center Markus Salinas, who led the Armadillos with 20 points, held himself accountable for the performance as he looked ahead to improving his and his teamās conditioning and efficiency.
āI felt like I was out of shape,ā Salinas said. āI definitely had a sloppy game. I know what specifically to clean up though. How you practice is how you play. We just need to go harder in practice.ā
Many spectators sported pink attire to observe Breast Cancer Awareness month, and breast cancer survivors and those whose family members have been afflicted by breast cancer were asked to raise their hands and received a standing ovation during halftime.
The Armadillos will look to improve 2-1 next Wednesday night as they take on the Wildcats of Northwest Vista College on the road.
āWe will definitely be ready for Northwest Vista,ā Salinas said.
