San Antonio College’s women’s basketball team claimed its second victory of the year against the Northwest Vista College, edging the Lady Wildcats 66-57 at home in the Candler Physical Education Center Wednesday night.
The win keeps SAC’s women’s team undefeated in the spring, and their record for the year stands at 8-1. This matchup was another showcase of last year’s conference finalists.

SAC Center Daviannah “Nunu” Johnson, who led all scorers, had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Transfer Point Guard Kayli “Angel” Carrisalez scored 11 points and dished out four assists. And SAC Guard Alexis Castillo added nine points, two assists and a steal.

Nevaeh Sosa went 3 of 4 from beyond the arc and had 12 points.
“I’ve been practicing my threes, so I’ve been able to come in clutch at the right times,” Sosa said.
SAC Coach Abel Castillo said the Wildcats’ pressure defense and traps his team responded towith grit and determination.

“It put a tremendous amount of energy on my team,” Castillo said. “The girls were gassed out, and [the Wildcats] got 16 points off easy transition baskets. At halftime, I had to manage the rotation better, and I had to be very vocal to ignite a fire in them.”
He now holds a 3-2 overall record coaching against Northwest Vista’s women’s team.
“I feel like we got to run and capitalize off our mistakes…the teams that beat us beat us off our mistakes,” Johnson said.

For next week’s game, Johnson said, “We got to keep playing all the way to the end…you got to win the fourth quarter.”
The women’s team will travel to St. Philip’s College to take on the Tigers next Wednesday, Feb. 25, at William Allen Hudgins Health and Wellness Center.
