The Student Government Association and the Office of Student Life hosted Dr. Francisco Solis to speak with students at the “Pizza with the President” event Wednesday, April 8, in the Nursing and Allied Health Center.
Less than twenty students attended, a sharp drop in attendance from the last time the event took place in the fall of 2025.

The exact reason for the drop in attendance is unclear, but a possible cause is difficulty with getting messaging to students.
“Maybe this particular semester, there weren’t as many students with issues.” Russell Guerrero, Strategic Communications Coordinator with the Office of Marketing, said. “I’m not really sure. I think it went okay, though I wish there were more students so that we could address their needs.”

Pizza with the President, held once a semester, is an opportunity for students to raise grievances, concerns and compliments about the college directly to the administration. Although attendance was lighter, there were still important questions asked.
“With the current growing campus, and the current political climate, what is Alamo Colleges District’s written policy to deal with ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) when they are at Alamo Colleges?” Asked a student in the American Sign Language Program, Jacalyn Palmer.

“The policy currently is that anybody who appears on campus regarding ICE is to be sent over to the president’s office and we would then immediately call our legal team.” Dr. Solis said. “We have to actually validate that the documents they’re presenting are legal and effective before we release any information or allow them on campus. That’s the directive from the board of trustees, and that’s the directive from the chancellor.”
SGA will host the next “Pizza With the President” event in the fall. The events are always open to all students.
