San Antonio FC posted another clean sheet Sunday afternoon at Toyota Field with a 2-0 victory over Lexington SC. SAFC, having given up only one goal so far in 2026, remain undefeated on the season and sit atop the table in the west.
Neither club dominated possession, and both defenses forced the other side to utilize set pieces for scoring opportunities.
In the 28th minute, SAFC midfielder Jorge Hernandez broke the gridlock when he followed up a deflected shot and snuck the ball past Lexington keeper Oliver Semmle, for a 1-0 advantage. Hernandez celebrated his goal with teammates and fans alike.
“The fans make this stadium electric. I just got to go show them some love because at the end of the day, they’re the ones supporting us, whether we win or lose,” Hernandez said.
In the second half, Lexington SC ratcheted up its attack and threatened to score on multiple corner kicks. SAFC managed to fend off pressure from Lexington and made several key substitutions in a veritable chess match of lineup strategy between SAFC head coach Carlos Llamosa and Lexington’s Masaki Hemmi.
Checkmate came in the 69th minute when midfielder Dmitrii Erofeev entered the match and scored the insurance goal in the 75th minute, putting SAFC ahead 2-0.
“I love that everybody was happy seeing him (Erofeev) score today,” Llamosa said. “He deserves it. He didn’t get a lot of minutes last year, but he showed up this preseason a different player.”
SAFC faces FC Tulsa in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field in a rematch between two sides that battled to a scoreless draw in league play March 14.
