Over forty students and faculty gathered on the fourth floor of the Moody Center to take part in the 50 Year Time Capsule Ceremony this Tuesday, April 28.
The ceremony marked the filling of a capsule that will be displayed in the Moody Center library for the next fifty years. It was a part of the week-long Multicultural Conference that started Monday, as well as a recognition of SAC’s centennial anniversary.

Department Chair of English, Humanities, and Speech Erik Hillskemper and President of SAC Francisco Solis both spoke on SAC’s legacy and future.
“We wanted to do something that commemorated the centennial while also honoring our other tradition of the conference itself,” Hillskemper told the sundial. “The theme of our conference is lost and found, and we thought, well, that’s a fun thing for a time capsule.”

After the speeches were given, students were invited to write their own notes on specialized corrosion-resistant paper to put into the time capsule. Over a dozen notes were placed inside, along with other commemorative objects, including a SAC centennial medal and a stuffed Ace the Armadillo toy.
Jaden Cruz, a SAC student, was there with his wife to put a note into the capsule.

“SAC means a lot to us. It has provided us great ways to move forward in life, ways we couldn’t have done ourselves,” Cruz, a sophomore studying to be an aircraft mechanic, said. “So it was really important to us that we wanted to contribute some things.”
The capsule will remain on the fourth floor of the Moody Center and is open to new contributions from students and staff until May 8.
