The Phi Theta Kappa Beta Nu chapter at San Antonio College inducted more than 50 new members Friday in Room 218 of the Nursing Allied Health Center in recognition of their prestigious academic performance.
Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society, serving more than 4.3 million members in two-year colleges. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and at least 15 completed credit hours are eligible for an invitation to join the society.

“The purpose is to help students build leadership skills, gain access to scholarships, network, and find friendships in a community of academics,” Psychology Professor and chapter advisor Jeanette Bunch said. “We create opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and conduct research, helping them build resumes for admission to competitive programs.”

A major factor in attracting students is the hundreds of millions of dollars in transfer scholarships exclusively for Phi Theta Kappa members.
“It feels like a big accomplishment,” said Rachel Neal-Hall, a social work major at SAC. “I had been working really hard to keep my GPA up.”
