With their second straight win, the Armadillos improved to 5-5 Feb. 25, defeating the St. Philip’s College Tigers 88-77 at SPC’s William Allen Hudgins Health and Wellness Center.
The game stayed close early, but the Armadillos pulled away and built a comfortable lead in the second quarter, which they held onto for an easy win.

“Last game we started to really mesh well,” SAC Guard Reginald “Jack” Stewart told the Sundial. “Just being consistent will help us in the next couple of games.”
Stewart led scoring for SAC and sent a message with a powerful dunk to end the half. SAC led the charge at halftime with a score of 47-35.

“I think we just need to stick to our strong points — kinda realize that our strong points are on defense.” SAC Head Coach Jimmy Alcala told the Sundial. “We just need to work on our shooting … we missed a lot of inside little shots.”
SAC Guard Demetrice Mims said the Armadillos will look to tighten up their shooting and carry this momentum into their next game at home against Palo Alto College.

“At the end, we were fouling a lot, getting back-doored,” Mims said. “But if we just clean that up and make our shots, we’ll be good.”
Mims, who sank four three-point shots, was a vital piece of SAC’s offense from the perimeter.
“He’s our big shooter,” Alcala said. “He kinda helped us get us back into the game. Whenever they would get close, he would hit some threes.”
The SAC men’s next game will be on their home turf, taking on Palo Alto College’s Palominos Mar. 4 at the Candler Physical Education Center, 8 p.m.
